I'm sure you appreciate the importance of being able to drive targeted traffi.c to your website.
To this end, search engines play an important role in the traffic generation process.
According to a Georgia Institute of Technology GVU study, "Internet search engines currently account for over 85% of new visitors to a website."
So what is a search engine?
A search engine is a system that allows you to find and retrieve information from the internet. There are currently many search engines and the 3 largest ones being Google.com,
Yahoo.com, MSN.com and Ask.com.
And when a marketer wants to drive targeted traffic from the search engines, he/she can do it via one or two methods – Pay-Per-Click Marketing and Search Engine Optimization.
(1) Pay-Per-Click Marketing (Paid Search)
Pay-per-click (PPC) marketing is a paid advertising technique that allows an advertiser to pay the search engine to have its ad shown when a relevant keyword is searched or entered.
These paid ads appear as 'Sponsored Links' on the right side (and sometimes on the top) of the search engine when a keyword is entered.
The largest PPC search engine is Google AdWords. Learn more about Google AdWords here: http://adwords.google.com
(2) Search Engine Optimization (Organic Search)
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a fre.e traffic generation technique that allows you to influence the ranking of your web pages on the organic (or natural) listing of a search engine.
Web pages that appear on the top 10 of the natural listings are considered the most "relevant" pages for the keyword in question. The natural listings are found on the left side of the search engine.
Another great free traffic generation technique is Article Marketing, where you create and distribute articles to article directories around the internet to generate natural 'back links' that point back to your website.
One of the top article directories in the internet is:
